Is Everyone Asleep In Indiana?

I just heard Jim Schellinger, as part of his announcement to run for Governor for the State of Indiana, say 'Being Governor of the state is like being the CEO of a large company'.

Unbelievable!

Mind you, I'm no political expert, student, or advisor, and beside my own personal reading and understanding of the subject, the only formal education I have in politics is Government class in high school. However, I do have some grasp of the basic principles behind democratic government that we hold dear in this country and state.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole idea basically 'government of the people, for the people, and by the people'? I realize this is overtly simplistic, and possibly a bit on the purist side, yet I do seem to recall this as being the fundamental idea behind it. This does seem to be contrary to the principle of business, wherein the owner, CEO, Board of Directors, or some other authoritative entity, completely controls the future, monies, and employees of the company. Governor = CEO? I'm afraid not. In fact they are quite mutually exclusive.

The Governor of the State is the chief servant. His role should be to guide the business of the State, on behalf of the people's desires. He serves US! Not himself. And certainly not the other way around. He is NOT the almighty CEO of a huge corporation, issuing orders and spending corporate monies as he wishes. No, he is supposed to be a servant of the people. It's NOT his monies to spend or save, it's ours, the people of the State of Indiana. We are not his employees who answer to him, it is HE that must answer to us. We the people are his boss.

The current administration of this great State, of which I am ashamed to admit I voted for, is operating under the 'I am the CEO of a huge corporation' delusion. By selling off State properties and interests, spending State monies on what ever pet projects seem desirable today, and cutting badly needed support to those in our population who literally do not have the means to support themselves. Sadly, our honorable, elected representatives seem to be star struck by the suave speeches and corporate reasoning, and are following along like lemmings off a cliff. Historically we've always been taught that the raping and pillaging of a people ended with the disappearance of the vikings. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case.

People of Indiana, wake up! This is NOT the way it's supposed to be! It's OUR property and money that's being carelessly tossed around. We don't need a CEO or that mentality in the Governor's office. We need a servant. We don't have to elect another CEO, we have a choice!

I don't know, nor do I have anything personal against Mr. Schellinger, other than not wanting another CEO in office. Sir, I implore you to please reconsider your views on what makes a good Governor. You may very well be the right man for the job, but approaching it as a CEO is NOT the answer.
