I have this indescribable love/hate relationship with politics.  It mostly sickens me.  Yet I can't at times shut up about it.  I suppose that's driven largely by the sickening factor.  Today it's partly due to a fear factor.

I wasn't able to catch Obama's acceptance speech at the DNC but let's face it, he's had so much press over the past year that I've probably heard most of it by now.  McCain on the other hand either hasn't received the press coverage or just hasn't said anything.  So I was able to catch part of Governor Palin's speech and all of McCain's.  I think that at least with Sarah Palin being on the ticket the press will start giving a more balanced coverage to both campaigns, which is a very good thing.

I will never believe that any one individual could be the answer to everything this country needs.  Each person has their strengths and weaknesses.  There are things both candidates have siad that I like, and equally as much that concerns me.  What jumps out the most right now is the use of the word "change".  Both candidates use it.  Obama's entire campaign is based on it.  But what does it mean?  Oh of course I know what the word change means in the literary sense, but I think the American people need to ask the question… "when you say change, what exactly are you planning on changing?".  No one has really said.  There have been hints, but no real specifics.

Change can mean many things in this day.  Such as:

Bring all the troops home now without any concrete resolution.  Or… get serious about winning, win the pointless battle, get rid of the chaff, secure the area, and get the hell out.

It could mean lower taxes.  It could mean raise taxes.

It could mean balance the budget and reduce the deficit.  It could mean the opposite.

It could mean bring the dollar back to being more in line with the gold or silver standard whereby stabilizing it.  It could mean crank up the presses and print more making it worth even less on the world market.

It could mean force the banks and mortgage companies to take ownership of their idiotic and self created crisis that has crushed many an American caught in their greed quest, even if that means more banks will fail and go under.   Or it could mean bail them out and support the idea that greed wins every time even when the grand scheme fails and finacially destroys the working man thus bringing down a nation's economy.

So please tell us lady and gentlemen, what's it going to be?  What are you going to change?  Will these changes be for the betterment of the country or the furthering of your careers and personal ambition?
